RE: Radio
First off, WELCOME to the Forum!
I think, if memory serves me correct, that you will have to change some plugs/wiring. For the money involved, I would suggest going to a Sony that can use the Harley hand controls. They sell for around $600 and can play WMA's MP3's and you can have satalite radio for just the cost of a subscription. If mine radio ever goes bad, I am heading that route. Check out www.biketronics.comfor a $ on the Sony

RE: Radio
Roger: I'm 99% sure that the '01 HD radio will swap into an '05 EG Standard since they share the same 23-place Base Audio Connector. I suggest you call Radio Sound, Inc., get customer service, and they can confirm--they were HD's vendor for the radios from at least '91-'05. Phone for Radio Sound: 502 267-6768.
But, as Geezer said, if you contact biketronics.com they will sell you for ~$500a Sony headunit, mounting kit, quality speakers, the HD speaker required to mount speakersto the inner fairing, hidden antenna, and most importantly, an interface unit that connects the BAC to the Sony headunit allowing you to have handlebar control of the radio/headunit. And it is all basically plug and play.
The Sony headunit is far superior to the '01 Harley unit in all respects, except that it does not have weather band or CB capability.
If you don't want the biketronics package, the interface unit is ~$150 and mounting kit ~$50--then you buy the speakers, adapters, antenna, etc.
