Need Advice on 07 Ultra Clatter

RE: Need Advice on 07 Ultra Clatter
heat= needs fuel remapped to a richer mixture, clatter i have it too im waiting till my dealer has an 08 demo so i can ride it and hear this ids system first hand if it does not work im gonna invest more money and have the baker f6f installed. personally i would feel better to have the noisy 5th gear completely out of there, i would hate to spend money on an ids if its not 100% , it would make me twice as pi$$ed as i already am. BACK TO THE HEAT i use thundermax, in the summer i set my fuel ratio to 12 to make it run cooler, now when the summer temps drops i will set my air fuel ratio back to 13, it does help to cool the bike down. i dont know if this can be done on other units but with the thundermax i can take my laptop out to the garage and change my air fuel ratio in about ten minutes. some people will say 12 is too low due to carbon build up but like i said i will change it as soon as the 90 degree weather is gone. by the way thundermax techs are very helpfull, when i explained this to them the only concern they had was i would lose gas mileage, but ill take a little gas mileage loss for a little while so i can ride comfortably. call them and tell them what you want to do as far as slip ons and keeping the bike more stock. one thing i would like to suggest is try getting your stock 02 sensors out before you buy anything and put a lubricant on the threads that wont allow them to get stuck you can get the stuff at any auto parts store my stock 02 sensors were stuck, the exhaustpipe actually bent trying to remove the rear one, and which ever fuel management system you decide to go with lube the threads on the new 02 sensors, i didn't care if the stock exhaust bent though because i was installing rinehart true duals but i was giving my friend my stock 02 sensors.

I've asked 2 local dealers about the IDS quieting the '07's down and both said, very quickly, that the IDS won't work for that, that's not what it's meant for, blah blah blah. I tend to believe the folks here who've actually tried it.

They may be programmed by the Moco to say that to squelch any ideas it fixes the clatter, which would prompt numerous requests for warranty adjustment. An HD rep told me it helped greatly with the clatter, but didn't say it would eliminate it totally.

I really like your post. I want to keep my bike stock as well. I don't have the money to just keep trying different options, hoping one will work. I talked to a mechanic friend of mine who also has 07 Ultra. He did air cleaner, pipes and Thundermax. Said it ran great but still had a little pinging. I just have some pinging sometimes and haven't spent any money. This morning at 60 degrees it ran great. The first weekend I had my bike it was 100 degees. I put on 500 miles with no pinging. My 5th gear noise seems to be less after 4000 miles.

My first 07 Ultra pinged it's azz off for the whole
9 1/2 months and 30,000 miles that I had it.
Somewhere in that 9 1/2 months and 30,000 miles
I put a Thunder Max in for about 6 weeks, the Ultra
still pinged it's azz off with no change what so ever.
I could run it as rich as 12 and retard the heck out of
the timing and it would ping just like it did stock. I
sent the Thunder Max back for a full refund, Zippers
is a great company to deal with, their ECU just didn't
work for my 07 Ultra.
My new 2007 Ultra 2 weeks old 3,000 miles on it and
it barely pings, I really have to work at it to even get
a slight ping out of it at 100+ degrees. This thing still
has the 07 Whining,clanking,rattling,shaking and
vibrating (Harley character) as my old 30,000 mile 07
Ultra did and that is fine with me because thats why
my wife bought it for me!
PS: 9 1/2 months 30,000 miles on the first one and the
crank took a crap! [:'(]
I hope everyone with an 07 Ultra enjoys them as much
as I do mine!

RE: Need Advice on 07 Ultra Clatter
Well, here it is. I went to the dealer today and had them install my IDS. I ordered it from Zanoitt last week, it showed up on Monday this week. I called my deater and made an appointment to have it installed, theysaid about a hour to an hour and a half labor. While waiting at the dealer I was having thoughts about it not giving me the results I was expecting. 45 min later it was done. The dealer only charged me 54 dollars for the install. I fired it up and off I went. I kew the bike had cooled down so I wasnt expecting anything yet. Well 60 miles later in 98 degree heat and NO Noise, even the 5 gear whine is 60% less. I had a hard time telling when I was in 5th to be honest. I lugged it down to 30 mph in 5th, NO Noise! 40 mph in 6th, NO Noise! 50mph in 5th, NO Noise, No Comp Noise at all at any speed or gear, No clatter or chatter at all at any speed or gear. Bike vibrates 80%less and 6th is much more enjoyable. 65 - 70 in 6th and it is a joy to ride. Do yourself a favor and get an IDS. You will fall in love with your Harley again. Thanks to all of you who keep us bikers informed.
PS. The wrench that installed my IDS said this was the shops first and asked me to call him and give him the results.

Most bang for the buck to releive the heat problem is RJ'S heatshields. Click on the "no more fried thighs" link here on the forum. $169.00 max and I and more importantly the wife love them.
Before putting them on, the right front saddle bag guard would get almost too hot to touch here in Central Florida. After its just warm like everything else.

You gotta love when Harley Davidson supplys the
$300.00+ fix for the 2007 Ultra's for the owners to
pay for. Instead of just calling all the 2007 Ultra
owners and telling them they cango to their dealer
if they choose to for a free fix if they are having
problems with their bike... [:'(]
I'll probably get the IDS for my 07 Ultra, but I
think it's a shame I have to pay for it! [&o]
I still love my 07 Ultra no matter how Harley Davidson
treats me as one of their customers and I guess thats
what they are banking on we all do!
I guess you can do that as a motorcycle company when
you build a 100+ year old design rattle trap of a
motorcycle that everyone is beating your doors down to
buy in droves! After all it is the last of the air cooled
breed of motorcycles that anyone can buy!
