I think it really depends on your use of it. If you just want one that looks good, and something that you can occasionally put some extra stuff in, go chopped! But if you are going to do longer distances and want to take as much as you can, get the King Pak and make it detachable!

I was in the same dilema , so I decided to ask those who had chopped TP's how they liked them. Every single one said they bought it for looks and wishthey would have got the king TP.
So I'm goin the king route

My thoughts, if you're going to take it off when not in use, get the big one for extra space when travelling. Yeah, the short one may look a little cooler, but what good is it if it can't carry a helmet, or what I had in mine;
3/4 face helmet
Pair of riding boots
Full set of rain gear
Full dresser bike cover
Maps
Extra glasses
Cleaning supplies/Rags/Nexus/Mother's Bike Wash
Bottles of water
Plus more
If you get the small trunk, you'll always wish you had more space

I'm spoiled or more correctly jaded because I've only had the Kings and it at times just barely carries what I want. Go for the space especially if you are going detachable. It will help eliminate the "extra" clutter you strap on because it wouldn't fit inside.

Personally, I don't think a King or chopped TP enhances the look of any bike. And, since I spend very little time looking at my bike (now that I have had it a couple of years), I was very happy to use the King TP for its utility instead of the chopped TP. Mounted on a detachable rack, the box is on the bike very little, so the cosmetic difference between the two boxes is very insignificant to me, and the 25% greater capacity of the King is always appreciated on trips.
