RE: thinking of selling 06
Trade in usually isn't all that great as the dealer has to make a few pennies also.
Try selling outright in your local trade publications. Keep the pricing under what a new one runs. Remember, why would anyone buy used for the same price as new? For the extras? (I think so) I often hear my bike has this or that or I spent X amount on this. SO WHAT. If a 1500wheel was installed a 750 came off. So it only added 750 more to the price. Now if you giving up the original wheel also than that is different. Same goes for the rest of the bolt ons. Unless the purchaser likes those exact parts they don't hold much value. Sure it sucks but it is what it is.
I always read the papers looking for good resale deals. I came across 2-06 Street Glides with under 1000 miles. One for 15.5 and the other for 12.5. Both had pipes, air cleaner andlowered& chromed front ends. The one for 12.5 I'm negotiating on currently. It may or may not happen.

1. See what dealer will give you on trade
2. Look up trade value in the Kelly Blue Book or the NADA book
3. Look in same books for the retail price that an 06 standard sells for.
4. Look in local newspaper to see what similar bikes are selling for.

I did the same, first bought a 04 EGS, traded to an 06Ultra and then to a 07 SG.. Took a really bad hit...
But it was in mid year, 07 weren't out yet, my salesman didn't give me any advice on "the best thing to do" or I'd have an 06 Ultra from the start...
This is the steps I went thru....
