Default My Baby's Sick...

Rode about 350 miles today... Around the 240 mark the bike sputters coughs and dies...Luckily I was parking at the time. Half hour later get back on the bike... First stoplight bike dies..won't hold the idle... Red Oil gauge lights up and then goes off... Bike starts right back up.. Engine light goes on for a bit, then goes off.... stop at a dealer a tech comes out checks it and says the code is TSSM.. Turn Signal Security Module... says it must be my security, thats why the lttle key is lit up.. I say.."I don't have security"... he says... "thats weird" I say... "isn't it"..

Anyways says its probably good to go to get home, but have it checked as soon as you can...

Riding up I-15 and I look down and the Speedo is at 0!! Look down again and it says 75!!

Engine light coming on and off... Bike surging and backfiring like mad... Speedo now bouncin all over.. 0..then 40.. then 10.. just crazy..
If I hold it at steady RPM its pretty much OK... let off and it'll almost die and then... right back into the power band...

And on 2 occasions... I gave it full throttle and it just had nothin... thought it was over...then all of a sudden.. back into the power???

I realize its tough to diagnose this... and my explanation may be a little screwy.. but the bike was all over the place... I also just started noticing a
"tinking" sound in the front of the bike/engine.. Not detonation/pinging... more like when you put a playin card in your spokes as a kid...

Thought maybe I could get some ideas as I can't get it to a shop till Tuesday...[:@]

Thanks and hope this post made some sense...

I like my 1982 fxr more everyday. Speedo cable, no check engine light, no efi, no fuel gauge.

Check all of your grounds, there is one at the neck on the right side that gets loose. Also check your relays under the seat, they will act like a fuse or circuit breaker when going bad, they get hot and everything stops, they cool off and everything is a go. These are just basics, it sounds like your issues are deeper or more complex than this, but the relays and bad grounds are known problems.

Definitely electrical and probably grounding issues with it being so many symptoms and bouncing back and forth..... I'd chase every available grounding point and reseat them and very tight... the take the neg off of the battery for a couple of minutes to let everything "reset" itself.Don't forget to check BOTH ends of the ground.... good luck... it's probably simpler than you think!!!!

Check battery connections - they sound like they're working loose.

tssm module bad..controls more than turnsignals. Had to have mine replaced, although all I was getting was an error code.

I had something like that on my '06 RG. Turn out to be the voltage regulator.. Harley had a recall on them a month later
