Default Question about Air Suspension

Has anyone adjusted their rear air suspension on a Road King ? Do you use a tire gauge to measure the pressure ?? The owner's manual calls for low pressure air. Will a bicycle pump work ??

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ray (twoseas)

They make a special hand pump for them. I think they are made by Progressive and I think you can pick one up at the dealer. I usually run 25 lbs in my rear shocks. (but I am a big guy and ride double alot)

I have an air pump for the car and I just added some air and rode it. My girlfriend liked when there was some air in the shocks. I was not able to get a reading so I just winged it.

Be careful on this. Go buy your self a shock pump. I ride mountain bike as well & I need to add air in both my front & rear shocks. Go to a bicycle shop & by a shock pump.

Get the touring suspension air pump. Part Number 54603-03A $39.95 on page 457 of the 2006 HD catalog.

A normal tire gauge is not going to give you a very accurate reading, and any compressor is going to give you too much air, which could blow the seals in the shocks. This tool has a hand pump and gauge, plus a bleeder. You can very easily and accurately adjust the air in your shocks with it.

Regards,

Bill

Absolutely true. Another advantage is that it is a Lossless pump - you don't lose PSI when you disconnect it like most pumps. This is important as the actual volume of air is quite small, and any loss will affect the pressure.
