I went ahead and bought it on my 2002. I used about $950.00 worth of it when it kicked back and took out the clutch basket, among other things. That happened about 3 weeks after I bought it...

I bought one on the RK 2 days before the factory warr. ran out. I have 20K on her now and afte a long ride I have a little oil coming out of the valve cover on #1 and hitting the A/C. not such a big deal but for $50.00 the dealer can fix it. My friend had a hose inside the gas tank get a hole in it, the Ultra ran like crap. $50.00 at Reno HD, 360 miles from home, and we were on our way.

If it makes you feel more comfortable by all means buy it. Just don't do it because it is a good deal financially, it is not. Yes, I guarantee you will see posts here like the last one that basically say...sure am glad I bought the extended warranty cause right after I bought it I got my money's worth....I am certainly happy for them individually but what you will never see is the 1,000 other people for every one of those that basically wasted their money.

If more people got the money they spent + back then these extended warranty companies would not be in business and the dealers would not be pushing these things so hard.

Hey, I don't have anything against these companies, frankly I really don't have a dog in this fight, I just really hate to see people waste money. And unfortunately it is usually the people who can least afford it that are taken in by this crap.

i bought mine for 3 reasons.... the dealer waived the prep fee, the wheel/tire coverage (flats included) and the towing/roadside assist.

I look at it this way, it's a gamble one way or the other but obviously the odds are in the favor of you not using it.If the odds were in favor of you having to use it for something major do you think the moco would even offer them? They make tons of money on these things and know the odds are definitely on their side. It's a business and they aren't in the habit of losing money.

but those are exactly the people who would benefit the most from it. if they don't have it, and something goes wrong, then their bike is gonna end up sitting for months until they can afford to fix it.

i agree completely that it is a crapshoot. and like all gambles, the odds are in the house's (hd's) favor.
