I didn't do a 500. At the 1000 they put their syn in all three holes. At 5000 I put Mobil 1 in the crankcase.

I did mine at 5k, but I don't think at the 1k will hurt anything. Heck, screaming eagles come with it from the factory.

Ditto on the now

1000 miles is more than enough time for all of the moving parts to have "seated" themselves. Dino is great, if change often, while the bike is new to let all of the mating pieces get to knon each, other, then Syn for long life.

OK - now that the 1000 mile mark appears to be the general rule of thumb on here what combo do you guys think is better?

1. amsoil (20-50) in crankcase, mobil 1 (75-140) gear oil in tranny, hd syn 3 in primary.

OR

2. Mobil 1 (20-50) in crankcase, amsoil severe gear(75-140) in tranny, hd syn 3 in primary.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????

If you want to change to synthetic, do it any time you want. The engineinternals are "seated"before the engine leaves the factory, which explains why H-D, and many other manufacturers, ship their vehicles with synthetic oil from the factory.
Unfortunately, there are as many answers to this question as there are mechanics, and many base their opinion not on factbut on outdated myths of synthetic oil being "too slick." Personally, I'd be more inclined to believe the engine manufacturer or the oil manufacturer than anyone else, including your local mechanic or those in an internet forum.Harley-Davidson says syntheticoil is safeat any stage of engine life. (This ends the debate altogether, IMO.) Most oil companies (Mobil, Pennzoil, Valvoline, et.al.) also recognize there is a lot of incorrect information on this subject floating around and address the question in the FAQ section of their websites, and agree that you can put synthetic oilin an engineat any time.

I can also say that in over 25 years as a mechanic and engine builder I have yet to see a single problem or failure attributable to the use of any synthetic oil in any engine at any stage of its life...

Start wth hd Syn 3 in the garbage pail and then go from there. I can tell you that Redline Shockproof Heavy in the tranny makes it smooth like butter!

Any good synthetic in the crankcase, any good gear oil or H-D Formula+ in the tranny, and Formula+ in the primary.
