I recently (month ago) added a 13’ EG Ultra Limited to my garage. I’ve been riding my 2001 FXD for 22 years and I love it! Too many mods to list. But getting on the FLHTK was a big change! Super stable when moving but 0-5 mph and 5-0 mph is a bit different! Just take your time with it! And don’t be afraid or too proud to go to an empty parking lot and practice the low speed moves.

as others said the 103 does get a bit warm but a tuner can help lessen that.

Whatever you decide, best of luck!

This has been a concern of mine. Maybe Harley ramped up quality to overcome negative image and then quit.

Some people I ride with have had weird stuff happen.

Bike bikes are getting old enough I realize weird stuff happens to. Broken wires, connectors, ect

But BMW had some awful claims of reliability 10-15 years ago too

Been riding a 2008 Sportster Roadster for 3 seasons, I put 412 progressive shocks for my fat ***. Everytime I leave my mechanic he tell me those shocks are perfect fit for me and that particular motorcycle. My typical rides are 50 to 100 mile loops around at least 2 hour rides to nowhere along city and highway miles. I've trailed the bike to a few rallies, in the future I might want to ride without a cage in the future, but I'm getting up in age so matress in the bed of the truck is a pleasing thought.

so I have 4 motorcycles on my radar right now.
#1 2003 Electra Glide Anniversary, less than 10k miles and $9k asking price, original owner. Full dresser bike tour package and lower fairing, Radio and speakers. Cam tensioner not changed out but not an issue.

#2 2013 Road King, 6k miles, 13k asking price. Original owner again.

#3 2017 Road King, less than 1000 miles, 17k asking price, original owner, 107 motor.

#4 2020 Electra Glide Standard, 1500 miles, 18K asking price, 107 motor, no radio or electronics, no lower, no tour package, only handlebar fairing, purchasing from the Dealer, all others are private sales.

Its not that money isn't a factory, but I've saved enough the past 3 years and into the 4th where 20k is possible. Im assuming my insurance is going to quadruple with the 107 motor, which might be a benefit for the first 2 choices.
I know woe is me, but if anyone can offer some advice about moving from a Sportster to the touring it would be appreciated.
If you buy a bike from a dealership ask them about Harley Davidson insurance, it is underwritten by sentry insurance or you can call them yourself, full coverage on my 3 bike(04 fatboy, 14sgs and 19 heritage) was going to be over 1200, the dealership got them on the phone for me, my premium for all three bikes now is 560 dollars and the coverage amounts are better.

My vote is to go with the Electra Glide Standard.
My first Harley was a 2019 Iron 883 Sportster (I still have it), and I bought my Electra Glide Standard 2 years later.
I hate to say this but I don't ride the Sportster at all anymore -- just the Electra Glide, even up through the twisty canyons here in Colorado.
You'll love the Electra Glide. They are so comfortable.

My road king is mainly my summer bike. But around here even summer nights you need a jacket, which is why I put triunk on. Hate going in bags, and if 2nd person you run out of room quick.

I have been blessed to have a woman has road around the country on both bikes. I feel bad thinking about that first year making her ride on the awful road king seat with just a back rest, and then cramming everything in bag. I added lowers, and trunk quick, and still wanted touring back quick. Road King is just a big cruiser.

Also money, do you want to go little cheaper and decide what you really like later? If you plan on getting right into big trips, then pay more.
you sure do talk alot. The road king is a summer bike had me laughing though. I'll bet you that I ride in as cold or colder weather than you on whatever it is you ride. Oh and there was no new frame in 2014 just the Rushmore improvements.
For the OP...go test ride the models you're thinking about first. Just a warning though...if you ride something with an m8 you might not want anything with a twin cam. Nothing wrong with the twin cam it's just the improvements to the m8 are worth the cost over an older model twin cam. But choosing out of the 4...2017 road king first place and the 2013 road king second place...you can't go wrong with either one really. It's called king for a reason.

I have a road king and Electra glide. I had the road king first and rode it around the country and plenty of cold. Has almost 90k on it
coldest was cheif Josef and Ontario in rain, fairing would have been nice
Rebuilt engine it twice, tranny once. No one works on it but me.

But you can't deny a fairing is better in cold

I ride my road king more in summer now. It is nice to have both. Road king really is just a big cruiser. Big frame comfortable, but stripped down like a cruiser.

If I could only have one bike,it would have fairing, in my part of country

You could always make a King into a Glide and back again.

I thought of that. By then I had 45k miles on it. It's nice not screwing with detachable stuff. All the gauges ect.

IMO why would you ever want less?

I can bar hope on ultra. I like secure trunk compared to detach on road king, plus extra lights. Though now a days you can buy more lights
I always have comfy touring seat on, don't care about being pretty.

My part of country you always got cold mornings and nights tombstone windshield is nice when hot.

My batwing is plain-Jane, so no gauges to mess with. All of my detachables are lockable and secure so they don't inadvertently walk away.

Why would I want less? My King is several bikes in one.

Cold weather config.

Bar hop and cruiser config.

Pizza and beer run config.
