Default My 2009 Ultra Classic

Seems to be running very hot. Anyone have a solution or is this the nature of the 2009. My 1994 never had this problem

You're 94 had a carburetor that actually supplied the engine with enough fuel.
These new ones with FI are so leaned out from the factory, it's a wonder they run.
Lean = HOT.

The more stringent EPA requirements from 1994 until 2009... certainly led to a leaner running engine...

But all that aside, don't discount the fact that in 1994, you were sitting on top of an air cooled 80" engine...

With your 2009, you are sitting on top of an air cooled 96" engine....

That's over a 200cc difference in displacement... All things being equal..... More displacement = more fuel = more power = more heat ...

You can't escape basic physics...

A quick and fairly inexpensive solution to try is NightRider's FL-XiED or their ViED fuel enrichment devices. They are plug and play and install in between the O2 sensors and the existing plug to "fool" the ECM into thinking the bike needs more fuel flow thus the ECM will increase the fuel supplied to the motor. The bike will not run as lean as before and motor heat will decrease. But at a slight cost of decreased fuel mileage. Not affiliated with them at all but I did buy a set from a forum member here a few years ago and installed them on my 08. The XiED is a fixed amount and the ViED is a variable type you can adjust. Nightrider.com is the website.

You can also install a set of cooling fans that blow air across the top of the heads to help with the heat.

the '09 also has the cat right under your right foot. That definitely creates a lot of heat over your previous bike. Get rid of the cat you will notice a big difference as well.

The 09 don’t have cats at least mine don’t and pipe hasn’t been cut open . You can do a stage 1.

No Cat on my 2009 Electra Glide either. I installed the VIED about 2 weeks ago and plan to experiment with the settings.
So far I have only set them both to 50%. Engine might be cooler, didn’t measure any temps before installing.
The only things I’ve noticed so far are probably using a little more gas and fuel smell after parking in garage.
I’ve only gone about 150 miles so it’s to soon for me to make judgements.

2009 Model Year Harleys had Cats in California models and CVO models in the US market. All other models didn't have them until 2010 IIRC.

Bikes came from the factory pretty lean. A Real Turner will make all the difference.
