When to the supermarket in the morning, that effing whining like someone has put a screwdriver against the exhaust so got to diagnosing. Came home, checked bearing temps all good there. Put a dab of lube in the jiffy stand joint and to the rubber stopper. Engine cold, pulled and pushed various parts left muffler seems loose, checked connections but all good there should be ok and some play allowed to accomodate for the fork moving and not making a sound while pushing by hand.

Went for a ride hoping that the jiffy joint had gone dry but after turning from the curb the noise starts again. Leaned from side to side, ok maybe more noise while leaning right. Longer stretch of street pulled clutch, killed engine and voila! sound went away. Started her up again and did it again, no sound.

So the engine rattles something against the frame or exhausts while moving??? Thanks for the support this far. Eyes start to wander again to the exhaust heat shields and oh boy are they fun to find out where it is touching. Oh and went through gears while engine killed and no problems there except don't switch up, makes a bad sound

Only place where engine is connected to frame moving parts is the exhaust connections and heat shields in the rear. If it would be alignment rods it would make the sound pretty much also standing still. Deducting that while suspension and engine are working I get the sound.

Or no dice and the vibes go to the front end with all that crap hanging from or some place while engine is running...

Pulled of main heat shield where exhaust connects to mufflers and went for a spin, no effect. Took a little more speed and rode to a speed bump with engine cut off and was able to get the sound somewhere in the front. Sound seemed to go away while actuating front brake. Guess I just have to pull the wheel and see what's what. Also was able to get the sound just for a little while at standstill engine on while turning handlebars to the right which would suggest brakes.

I had a vibration that I couldn’t find.

It ended up being that the passenger floorboard mounts were in upside down and had plenty of clearance until someone sat on the bike.

Things change as the suspension compresses.

But, it sounds like a bearing.

Brake pads look on the worn side. Loosened calipers, kicked them a bit and fiddled with the front brake. Lets see after a spin if it had any effect.

I had changed the shifter rod to the ball joint ends and found that while there is no play in the rod, the ball joints rattle a bit and I can hear it up to about 50 mph. While riding I can reach down and grab the shift rod and noise goes away. Just a thought.

Brakes function properly and can still hear the sound when braking which shouldn't happen when the brake pistons are actuated and there is no play. Shifter rod I have checked and my thoughts on there also since noise goes away when engine is killed. But why doesn't it make the noise while standing still with engine running. Have to keep looking, I guess. Luckily it's just annoying and there is no effect on the function of the bike.
