1) Make sure your running fresh hi test gas in it. 2) Give it a once over looking for air leaks. I believe those old Evo's had vacuum operated ignition switch that had small rubber hoses attached to them If they're original, replace them. Intake manifold seals can dry out and leak and drive you nuts. To test them, use some carb cleaner and spray around them. Spray so it won't be sucked into the carb directly. If the idle changes when spraying, there's you leak. Good luck.,,
