Default adding oil

just got a 06 glide and was reading manual about adding oil. it says if you dont add harley oil you must add diesel engine oil. if you are down a half quart you cant just add a good grade of car oil, or some other motorcyle oil.at a gas station.what harm can you do.

Go to the tech section, get into the oil forum and start reading. I wrote a 2 part article on oils and it's there in the top section. You do not have to use HD oil, do not have to use diesel oil, and can use the correct viscosity car oil. There are better quality oils than HD, and for a much lower price. If you use the correct viscosity oil, you won't void the warranty.

I'm not sure if the HD clutch is the same as a Sportbike, but you can NOT use any oil with MOLY in it. If you do it will cause the clutch to slip. Moly is usually found in automotive oil.

Just a thought, Like I said I'm not sure if our Clutch is the same as a Sportbike.

I would stick with an oil made towards the motorcycles instead of automtoives.

There is very little moly in most 15w-50 & 20w-50 oils. In fact, when I had Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w-50 and car-type 15w-50 analyzed, the car oil had less moly than the bike oil.

Maybe V-Twins are different then because I-4 Sportbikes the oil even says Contains No Moly on it.

I would still stick with an oil made for motorcycles, unless in desperate need of oil.
