Yeah, looking forward to it! We did two seperate 40 day rides last summer, but they were more focused on marking off the last of the lower 48 that we had not hit in the past. This time we're going to places we WANT instead of NEED, lol.

Reason I ask is some are a bit more OCD about the full covers marring their bikes in those windy and rainy days, and some just want to keep the important things dry. My trips are not as long as yours, but my riding buddies use covers like this one or these. They are very compact. I use a cargo net and tie it down onto a luggage.

Many use full covers and are good with them. Looks like you'll have a great trip!

I have used the Harley 1/2 cover. Here it is over my TriGlide a few years ago at the Grand Canyon south rim. It’s pretty heavy duty, and when sprayed well with water repellent I’d waterproof. It folds up pretty compact, and although I didn’t test…it would probably squeeze under the luggage rack.

Now, I’m more concerned with how to protect my bike from hail during our trip to, and stay over at Sturgis. The last time we were there, we were camping in an RV, and had a pop up canopy, that protected the bike during a marble size hail storm. This time we are staying in a rental house that has no garage, or any cover…

What would you do?

Keep in mind with a full cover, it will act as a sail when strong storm winds come up, this sail could cause the bike to tip over on the right side.

I've seen and heard of others having to deal with the "Wind Sail" effect on some bike covers, which is why I liked the fact that this one has a nice buckle and strap set up to cut down on all that.

5.Three buckles clip the front, middle and back buckle together on either side of the lid, and an extra 6.6ft long strap attaches to your motorcycle so it will be firm even on a windy day.

Just spitballing here, (or maybe hailballing?), but what about laying and securing some towels on the painted or sensitive parts before you put the cover on?
