Desire more sound while cruising

RE: Desire more sound while cruising
Just did these myself. Quick thoughts... regardless of what the directions say, put the right side pipes on BEFORE you put the floor board back on. Had to take mine off to get the pipe with shield in there. The rear cylinderlower nut was a pain. A short angled "stubby" wrench would have been nice. My directions had the pics wrong for the left side heat shield clamps. Note the direction of the screw access before you torque things down. Had to pull the shield back off to change the clamps. All in all... very easy install. Took longer to get the starter bracket on/off than just about anything else. Love them! The sound great/look great. Had two neighbors knock on my door within 5 mins to come check out the pipes (they are HD guys too). Before you fire her up, clean and double clean the pipes!
Hope you enjoy them. Stay away from my house after 11 pm though. I need to sleep - LOL

Much appreciated. I'll print this post off when the pipes cometh. Did you use the exhaust gaskets that came with the Rineharts, or did you opt for the Screaming Eagle ones? On my old Fatboy, they didn't come with gaskets and I used the SE. Just curious if the Rineharts are good enough. I'm guessing so.

I used the James gaskets that came with the Rineharts. They sealed fine, but I have to say they looked a little questionable in my book. On that note, the only thing i did NOT like about the Rineharts was the lip at the head of the pipes was not very even. I was surprised when they did seal.

I prep'd the bike last night, stripping off the old system. That damn bracket for the crossover pipe bolted on with the starter p!$$ed me off to no end. The one bolt on the right came off fine, the second bolt, holy crap, took 2 + hours, pb blaster, etc, nothing. I ended up breaking the bracket off by just moving it back and forward until it snapped. Then the bolt became loose enough at that point. I wonder if I had a ball allen wrench if it would of made it easier. The allen wrench itself is about shot now because of that ordeal. The inside of the allen bolt is worn pretty bad too. Don't need the bracket supposedly, because the Rineharts have thier own. I'll just have to get a bracket one day if I decide to sell and want to put it back to stocker.
Tonight I will install the new system. Hopefully things willgo smoothly. Just have to pick up a few things on the way home.A new bolt atlocal HD for like $2 (I could probably reuse the original, but I don't want to take my chances, it's a bit beat down), some Permatex Ultra Copper High Temp Silicone Sealer and a 3/8 Allen for the floor boards. I was able to move the floor board bracket enough out of theway to remove the stock pipes. I do need to remove the bracket totally in order toput thenewspacers in.
Oh yeah, make sure you unbolt the negative battery cable. I pulled the main fuse thinking it was enough, but that's not the case. Sparks flew for a sec when I was unbolting the starter.
Ihave to get it done tonight for a day trip from north of Columbus to Ace's and Eight's near Cincinnati tomorrow morning. I'll check back in with pix when all is complete. Get er done!

Checking back in on this. So I "successfully" installed the Rinehart True Duals on my bike. Man, what a pain in the AZZ. Most of it took no time installing, except for the back bottom head bolt. I didn't have enough clearance to get a socket in there. I had to basterdize a junk tool that I got with our eliptical trainer. The wrench size fit, but had to bend the tool into an L shape to get it in there. I tightened it up as hard as I could, no idea if i'm up to par on the torque. The rest of the bolts I was fine. I'm wondering if the pipe was just bent wrong, or it was operator error??? At any rate, I took it on a maiden voyage down near King's Island, north of Cincinnati to Ace's and Eight's Harley Davidson. My round trip was around 270 miles. I definitely enjoyed the extra sound. You can hear a nice humming from the pipes at cruising speed, definitely louder than my Ovals that I had on there before. The whole sound was exactly what I was looking for. Plus the heat issue is totally gone. So I get sound, looks, and heat resolution all in one. I just wish that the installation of that one last head bolt was easier. I spent forever on that. The V&H fuelpak that I had on the bike when I had the Ovals works like a champ still. Just reprogrammed it to the specs and she's good to go.
Oh yeah, and I also found out that my azz didn't enjoy the C&C seat around mile 175. It managed not to give me butt burn as early as the stock seat, but it's definitely not made for long hauls. Allen at Mean City Cycles is due to recieve my stockseat in a few days for memory foam upgrade and reshape. Turn around time is predicted to be within days. Of course I'll start a new thread after I ride on the modified stock seat on a trip. This one will be my seat I'll use to go to Myrtle for fall bike week from Columbus, Ohio, a mere 600 miles planned all for one day.
Sorry, no pix yet. The sun ran away due to the left over tropical storm system that made it's way north up here. When I get some sun, I'll repost with pictures. I'll take some with the C&C and some with theMean City Cyclesspecial.

Rock on. I'll plan on it. I'll be making the journey with a few fellas from here, and one buddy coming up from Clearwater, FL. He's going solo as of now. Need to find some peeps on here that can team up with him for the journey. I'll be checking out the section as soon as I finish typing this.
