Default Neutral Light Comes On.

In 4th and 5th gear the neutral light comes on. When I shift up to 6th or back down to 3rrd gear it goes out, Bad neutral switch? Or . Some times the key icon (anti-theft) will come on . 2007 Ultra. Any one else experience this? Thanks. Old 96.

I don’t know what the problem is, but check for codes. That may give you your answer.

I would definitely think neutral switch and very easy change.
There is a deep detent on the shift drum that allows switch plunger to extend and closes the switch. It can't come on unless switch closes when plunger goes down in to the cutout. I would guess the spring on switch is busted and possibly the higher gears gives drum a bit more slack.

Here is the detent. I had to swap the drums when installing a 2014 gearset into a 2017 as neutral swich moved a small bit.

I had a similar problem with my 06 Dyna. I took the switch out, compressed the ball and liberally sprayed around the ball socket with some WD40. That seemed to remove some crud that was stopping it from moving freely. I never had another problem with it.

I tried that and it did not work. Wound up having to put a new switch in. Fixed it. Just thought I would give an update in case any one was losing sleep over it.
