OP..... That's a solid location.....
However, I'm in the camp of trying to keep it unseen.....
I routed mine out the bottom of the side cover. It's barely noticeable when not hooked up to my battery tender. Although it's "loose", it has chafing protection on the cord that holds it in place, and it's really not hard at all to connect & disconnect...

I hate those stupid shields. First thing I took off when I brought my new bike home. They don't work and are only a political stunt by H-D to shut up the "it's too hot" naysayers. And besides, I like being able to see all of the rear rocker covers on my scoot's engine 👍🏻
