Default What the **** is up with my horn??

I have 07 Street Glide. . My horn does not blow its loudest potential half the time.... It sounds like a tugboat when i push it and when I let off and try it again, it will work properly... If i hold it down it sounds like a tugboat for a second or so, then blows its full potential... Why is this???

The stock horns are crap. They are dangerous if you count on them. I used mine 2 times in an emergency and it failed both times. I have since replaced the stock horn with the Howards Dynamic Duo. It is the largest andloudesthorn I could find. Extremely loud and has never failed me. Better look into something else that you like that really does the job.

The horn itself is more than likely hitting the horn cover. Twist it around a little bit so it doesn't contact the cover... that should fix it!

I have a 06 street glide, every 4th time hit the horn it failed to blow, I checked the connection, and all looked good. Took it to the dealer with other problems and they replaced the horn. Now it works everytime. You should have it checked out, You don't want to be without a horn, it could save your life.

When I replaced the stock horn cover on my bike I had a hell of a time getting the horn to work correctly after it was all back together.

I never used a torque wrench so I know I was off on the actual specs. If I tightend the bolt too much the horn wouldn't make a sound. If I didn't tighten it enough it sounded really sick. [:@]

After playing with it for a while and driving the neighbors batty, I finally got it where it works OK.
I hope I don't ever have to mess with that thing again!

I agree with di75 and alien spyder. When I switched the horn cover, I had to fiddle with it to blow correctly. If it touches the cover, or is to tightly clamped down, it doesn't blow at all, or sounds like the 'tugboat' you are talking about. Take it to the dealer, if you want, but I would try moving the horn, itself, around a bit first.

I had my 06 Road Glide in several times for the same problem. I fixed the problem by
installing the HD air horn. No problems now. I think the MOCO knows about the
problem and could care less because they know you will purchase upgrades.

Had the same problem with my '06 SG and asked my dealer about it. The service dude said that moisture will collect up in the button on the handlebar, causing a bad connection. He told me to take it apart, clean it up and WD40 it. I said, no, I'll bring it in for you guys to fix since it's under warranty. They farted around with it for 20 minutes before they gave up and put a new horn on the bike. Now it works fine.
