Default USB port advice

I have a 2015 Road King.

The battery has cables installed and running to where I can easily plug in a tender.

I would like to put in a USB port so I can charge my phone and use the navigation on it. I'm not sure of the best way to do this:

1. Would the USB port be subject to abuse when the tender is plugged in?
2. Would a remote 12 v port be better? With a phone charger plugged in? I'm not sure a remote 12 v port connected directly to the battery is a good idea.
3. I have an extra accessory switch on the forks. It is not used at the moment, the other switch turns on the passing lights.

Suggestions?

Some on here use the battery tender for what you're wanting to do. Nothing wrong with doing that.

I use this dedicated USB power port attached to the ACC switch. My '13 King has the ACC plug under the seat, but yours might be behind the left side panel. I attached a deutsch plug to the USB power port to plug into the ACC plug and ran it under the tank to just under the nacelle. It powers my GPS I have on my bars and also charges my phone.

Here`s the factory "splitter" for the underseat plug

That's exactly what I installed on my '05 Road King at the base of my handlebars and it worked great for charging phone and GPS.

I have a https://optimate1.com/usbo-100/ which will turn off once the battery goes below a certain voltage to prevent draining the battery. I use it with my Ultra when I'm touring just incase I need charge a device when at a campsite.

On another bike I just use a USB adapter that plugs into the 12 volt port. The port turns off with the ignition on that bike so there's no chance it will kill the battery.

I like that this one shuts itself off.

My bike has what appears to be either a factory or dealer installed, remote battery tender connection. It is incorporated in the wiring harness for the bike, and actually has three wires. A two wire SAE plugs in perfectly and allows a remote battery tender to work just fine.

What I was hoping to do was wire this to my nacelle accessory switch. This seems to be un duly complicated to my electronics challenged mind. I'm being told that i have to switch wires in the plug on the bike to make it work with the switch. Anyone know about this?

The switch on the left turns on the running lights. The one on the right is for accessories.

This is the connection on top of the battery and under the seat. I believe this is for the tank gauges.

Under the left side cover are two plugs. I'm told the white, unused one, is for the accessory switch.

I unplugged the rubber weather cap for the photos, There are four wires going to the white one. Only one purple comes off the bottom connection on the left.

These are the pins on the top white connector. I'm told I need to buy a duestch (sp) plug to make the switch work.

This is how the white plug is wired. It is very easy to see which connections go where on the connector. I am assuming the red/blue is power, black is ground....not sure of the teal and blue/purple wires.

My '13 King had the 4-pin and yours has the 6-pin deutsch plug, but looks like it uses only 4 pins or wires.

On mine, the black was the ground. The other pins (wires) was for the IGN and Nacelle switch (both must be on), IGN or ACC (either position), and brake light circuit (for an aux light). Not sure on the '14+ bikes. I connected mine to the ground and the IGN/Nacelle wire. A wiring diagram might help or you can test the pins with a meter.

The deutsche plugs can be had on Amazon
here here
.

Only other way is to get the H-D aux power port here, which already has the deutsche plug you need for your bike and splice the wires to the USB power port. Easy enough to reposition the hot pin of you want to use the IGN/Nacelle switch.
