Default Fuel Gauge Flutters

Hey guys,

My 09 Electra Glide has the "flutter" issue with the fuel gauge. From what I have searched it is the gauge itself. I found an 07 fuel gauge on ebay with the 75111-96C part # (same as mine) but it's missing the chrome ring.

Will this part work on my 09?

My FLHT is an '08, and I had that problem with my fuel gauge. When I had it opened up enough to remove the gauge, I cleaned all the contacts on the gauge, and in the plug, applied a bit of Dialectric grease, and tried it. Just for giggles. That was 7 years ago, and it still works fine. Maybe you'll get lucky? Worth the few moments it took to try it

Oh nice! Was it easy enough to open up?

7 bolts to remove the outer fairing, Once you remove that, all the gauges are right there in plain sight. I didn't even have to remove the gauge to do what I did..

Having the same issue on my 2005 Road Glide. I had the fairing apart over the weekend the light had also gone out. Well no obvious electrical issues, the bulb had just blown out after 16 years of service.

While messing with all of the wiring etc to try and find a short, chafing etc, I noticed that turning the front end did nothing, but when I moved the bike around, the gauge started fluttering. My diagnosis was that something was wrong in the tank with either the float or the sending unit, gas moving around made it jump almost 1/4 tank on the gauge. Really seemed to me to be in the tank, but I called it a day. I should have tried cleaning the connections to the gauge, dielectric grease can solve lots of problems, but I am confident my issue is float related.

Going on a road trip in two weeks down south, I knew the light being out would make me mental, fixed. She will hit 80k miles on the trip, when I get home I will do the fuel filter replacement, that will give me an excuse to be in the tank. Might just change the sending unit while I am there.

Opinions?

Yeah I've currently got everything apart...I will try this.

Anyone have a clue on the fitment of that part # by chance in case this doesn't work?

So apparently in 2008 the part # went to a 75111-08

my 13 has an erratic gauge .... when the bike is moving ... it is almost like the float is no longer damped.... when the bike moves, the gauge moves enough to be distracting.

SInce this started shortly after I replaced my tank... it leads me to think it might be self induced.

I am still trying to figure out of the range to empty is reading correctly, I have not been riding much so it is low priority.... I use the Range and the fuel burn info from the GPS for the moment

I had the same problem on my 09 FLHX. I found another thread here that talked about a resistor going out in the gauge causing the problem. Replaced the gauge and it’s been working fine.

Here is the thread

The gauge on my wife's 2010 TriGlide was doing the same thing. Changed it yesterday and all is good.
