aftermarket Sony stereo question
i am planning on the biketronics adapter and a set of Hogtunes speakers but had a question on the radio.Everyone on here has been talking about getting the Sony 5710 (i believe),why is that?IS that the only one that will work with the adapter or does that just seem to be the favorite?thanks

RE: aftermarket Sony stereo question
I think thats just one of the popular ones. That kit also works with some Pioneer sets. They dont advertise that for some reason but if you ask the guys at biketronics they will give you a list of pioneer stereos that work. I like the Pioneer because they give the option of Sirius sattelite as well as XM.

RE: aftermarket Sony stereo question
Question in regards to aftermarket radios....
Is it desirable to have anti-shock on a stereo for the bike? Just asking since the Sony, being popular, does not have it. I will mainly be listening to MP3 discs. Do any of you who have used the Sony CDX-F5710 had issues with skipping?
Thanks,
Brian

RE: aftermarket Sony stereo question
IMHO, the 5710 is the best bang for the buck in the sony line. Everything else had a display with moving graphics, diddnt want the distraction while riding.
The only time mine skips is when its cold out, once the unit warms up it goes away.
What makes a radio compatible w/the biketroniks kit is the wired remote plug on the back of the radio, not just any aftermarket head unit will do. Pioneer uses Sony componets, and wired remotes are interchangeable between the two.
The sound of the 5710 through 4 speakers is amazing!

RE: aftermarket Sony stereo question
I have sony, clarion and now alpine in the mastercraft- rough environment.
ALL skip on the big bumps... the alpine skips NOTICABLY less than the others. needs to be a big wave hit hard.
feature to have is one that will record music into the deck- memory playback- this will not skip...guarranted
not too familiar with the bike set-up but plastic wrap will absorb and damper the skips if there is room at install. All installs are done with a sense of rigidity for obvious reasons, but if can be suspended with material its helps...
also, make sure you match the watts/channel with the speakers. lots of people make the mistake of buying nice speakers and then under power them... sure they work but not they could- turned loader with less distortion- clearer sound. again in the open air (boat/bike) applications clear power is everything. you can actually hurt high end speakers if they are under powered.
anway
Sony will work.
obviously new to the forum and i am not trying to jack the tread but is there anything behind the speakers in the fairing? or is it open space?
