Default So I did a thing....

Last week I joined the bagger club! Picked up a 2009 Road King in Blue Flame Pearl/Pewter Pearl. 47k miles and super clean. She(?) runs great and the 96ci motor seems to have plenty of power. The only modding that's been performed was to add a set of V&H slip ons and a wireless charging phone mount. So it's a pretty much blank slate if I decide to do any upgrades. Due to crappy weather, I haven't had a chance to ride much - trip to the county clerk to do title/reg work and that's it. Looking forward to getting some saddle time in! Coming from a 1200 Sporty, she's a heavy beast, but handles really well. I'm super excited!

Please ignore the torn apart Sporty in the back - restoring the mid controls for my wife.

Welcome from NC and congrats on the new addition.

I too come from an XL1200 and also have a King. Still have the Sporty. You'll get use to the weight after a couple of weeks riding. I find the weight on the King is down low and not as top-heavy as the Sporty.

The wife might like to stretch out on the long rides on that Sporty. Suggest putting hwy pegs in the forward position.

How’s that little Coleman dirt bike run? They sell them at our local tractor supply and thought about one for the granddaughter.

Congrats. The 96” motor is solid. A good stage 1 and you can be done. I love mine and several friends have them in touring bikes. Good power, very little heat, basically bullet proof….and Road Kings are just fantastic bikes. Enjoy!

It runs pretty well... I'd say it tops out at around 20-22 mph and my youngest daughter is having a blast on it. Took a little work to get it right (chain way too loose, nothing tightened down), but it scoot on the road and off the road. I feel like it was worth the price - we got it at Tractor Supply as well.

The thing about a "heavy" bike? Once you get used to it, you no longer even think of it as heavy. I know I don't. I enjoy cutting tight corners and practicing slow speed handling and HD handles that better than any other bike I have ever ridden. Tighter turning radius than most others.
