Default help... how to remove seal

Hi all,
My '08 Road Glide sprung a leak the other day, leaking about a 6" wide puddle every night. I've taken off the primary and the drive sprocket. The leaky seal is the one on the side of the transmission behind the drive sprocket. Is it possible to remove that seal without dismantling the transmission? If so what's the trick? Thanks in advance.

Also, I'm a bit worried why that seal would suddenly leak so bad. The shaft seems solid, no play that I can detect, is the bearing gone?

Z.

Best advice I can give at this point is to suggest you consult your FACTORY manual. It should show you exactly what needs to be done, and how. Just be sitting down when you ask about those specialty tool prices.

Removed outer and inner primary? Front sprocket and rear sprocket?
Inner primary seal and bearing - be careful not to crack the case pressing bearing out and in. Check the main shaft bearing while your at it, definitely special tools.
If your experienced then it's doable, if you have doubt, have it done.

You'll also be dealing with the stator. That far in consider upgrading the compensator and perhaps the tensioner.

Even when you know what you're doing **** happens. Block slipped just as I was pressing. Fortunately I found a take off Inner for $50.

Two 1/2" long self tapping screws 180 degrees from each other. Drive them about 3/4ths of way in and then take two pairs of vice grips and grab each one. Then start wiggling and pulling...it'll pop right out.

Forgot to add your inner primary bearing race has probably walked inward into that seal...thats why it's suddenly leaking. S&s makes a tapered one for about 50 bucks...baker has a fix too...but in typical baker fashion it's not cheap. The old one may in to far to grab with the standard removal tool. Two options...carefully cut it off with a grinder or theres a special tool for removing races that have walked too far.

I can literally hear that gut wrenching cracking noise from here. There is no mistaking that sound. Every time it happens, you KNOW how bad its going to be but always hope for a miracle.[

Some threaded rod and sockets seems like a safer method than using a press. I have a press, but I found the primary bearing remover and installer from Georges Garage much easier.

Hi all, thanks for your replies. Yes I took off my outer primary, compensator, clutch assembly, inner primary and finally the main drive sprocket. The leak is on the main drive seal. So I spoke with HD and have an appointment on Thursday. I'll have it taken to the shop and have the main drive bearing and seal replace by the dealer. I'll also get him to do the inner bearing and seal on the inner primary while I have it apart.

Belt looks fine I'll leave it for now.
