iclick, what you said is a little puzzling to me. You weigh 170 lbs which is 30 lbs lighter than me and your shocks are 12 1/2" which according to the manufacturer will be stiffer than the 13"since there is less travel and they want to prevent bottoming out. Yet you say you have the preload set at 3 clicks (very stiff).

Mine are totally counterclockwise which is the softest position. The only thingI can figure is that they do soften up with some miles.
You also say that you have bottomed outon occassion but my shocks don't even come close and I have been going over every bump I can find.

There is a number on the spring that denotes how many foot lbs it takes to compress the spring. My spring reads 90/125 (if I remember correctly. I may bewrong and will check again), what rate is listed on yours?

RE: New feedback on Progressive 440's
I see no number of any kind on either of these springs, so if it is a tag it must've been removed by the PO, as I certainly didn't. The part number is 440-4001C, which is the standard spring for the FLH bikes, but this same spring is listed as the HD option for Sportsters. What is your shock's part number? Even comparing part numbers would be like comparing apples and oranges for the springs, as the 13" springs are undoubtedly quite different from the 12½.

The number is actually printed on the spring, it is not a tag. Your printing must have worn off.

One minor negative to the 440's is the relatively weak rebound control, although I haven't found this a problem and is just an observation.
This is the reason I tried works performance. I did like my progressive shocks but after getting the works tailor made for my wife and I weight. I still like progressive shocks; I just like the works performance better

I removed the 13" air shocks from my RK and replaced them with 12" progressive 440's, whole different ride, I weigh around 180# and I run them with no preload. If my wife is on the back then I tale them down 5 turns. The 90/125 is the standard spring

Here's a question...... do those who have gone from 13" stock to 13" 440's feel like they are sitting a little higher?
