Route 66 / Vegas trip - ideas
I am planning a fly/ride for Late October (18th-21st) with 6 other guys. We are flying into Vegas to pick up the bikes and head out. Total trip on the bikes will be Thurs am to Sun pm so we will have 3 1/2 days on the road. We want to hit the long portion of route 66 from Kingman to Flagstaff, take in Hoover Dam and see as much of the Grand Canyon as possible. We are open to any other ideas and have thought about Winslow (standing on the corner).
I am looking for any recomendations of sites, eats, hotels, gear, clothing, routes, etc...We want toget the most out of the weekend as possible.Mydad is coming out as well and it will be our first road triptogether on bikesin 18 years.

Be sure to stop at the Hackberry General Store on Rt. 66 about 25 miles east of Kingman. It's a really trippy place.
Also, you better go see the meteor crater just west of Winslow. Take a side road to the south off the interstate and it's about 10 miles to the crater. Very impressive!
Sedona, AZis a damn cool town if you get down that way.

if you are headed that way check out http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tips/...ractionNo==101 this is a well know stop in Seligman, Arizona I have taken 66 from kingman to Seligman - very long (non interesting) route - However, Seligman which is about 1 mile off I-40 was a great stop - Really enjoyed that..
On another thought - being that you will be there in Oct - Death Valley is Very interesting and only about a 3 hour ride from Vegas - however, it is in the oppisite direction you are headed...
While in Vegas - check out "Red Rock Canyon" just a few miles west of town and a Very nice ride.. When you are done with that ride... ride over to the Red Rock Casino - park in the parking lot and walk to the front of the Casino and eat at "The Salt Lick" This is a branch of the Famous Salt Lick in Austin Texas - Started by Scott and has some of the best food you will ever find and the prices are also very good... you can get a "never ending meal" for about $17 - all the bar-b-q you can eat and enjoy... All this is about 10 miles west of the main strip and a lot less crowed...

Pack some warm clothing- it starts getting chilly at the upper elevations at night that time of year (Flag is around 7000 feet, and Winslow is at 5000). Thirty miles east of Winslow is Holbrook, where there's a teepee hotel that might be fun to stay in for a night, just to say you did.
La Posada hotel in Winslow was recently renovated and is supposed to be pretty nice (haven't been inside it in a while). It's an old railroad stop that featured theHarvey girls way back when. You might want to check on availability of rooms in advance.
