Default Curious to know , at what speed / rpm do you use 6th gear .

I was having a conversation with the tech that did my upgrades and he mentioned that with my setup , I shouldn't be using 6th gear until I hit about 125 km/hr , approx 78 mph . Around here , the speed limit never exceeds 110 kmph , 68 mph , so in reality , I'll never / shouldn't use 6th unless I head down to the us where the speed limit is definitely higher .
I used to be in the habit of using 6th when on long flat straight always , then shift down when passing or riding through twisties .
Since having the cams put in , I've noticed an increase in torque when in 6th doing 110 kmph , no need to shift down .

So , what should I do ? ride the way I do or should I take the advice of the tech and stay in 5th , don't really want to mess up all the upgrades I just completed .

I searched many threads and most are dated , and I'm also thinking there must be a difference in how the engine is / was upgraded .

Thanks in advance for your input !

Speed isn't the determining factor. 70 mph uphill isn't the same as 70 mph downhill. Don't lug it and you won't hurt it.

I usually hit 6th around 72-75 mph. A lot of 75 mph highways around here and some 80 mph in Utah from Moab.
Not hitting 6th gear would impede my need for speed!
Good luck with your upgrades!

I like to be in 2500-3000 rpm. I recently noticed that I’m in 6th at around 60 to 65 MPH.

Doing 75 I’m at around 3k rpm my sweet spot. I was just thinking of this, wondering if I go stage II what cam will do the job of 80 MPH at 3k rpm. I don’t ride hard and just like to cruise. But need that low end power and stay in 80’s if I’m doing freeways.

I shoot for anything above 2200-rpm and at about 3000-rpm I’ll upshift.

For me, 6th gear is above 60-mph. Usually 65+

YMMV

Who said this? A mechanic?
Shift into high gear as soon as your engine can pull you without lugging down. Even then it doesn't hurt anything.
Keep your RPMs low when cruising. Downshift when you want more power such as passing.

I don't see 6th gear unless I hit the interstate and get to 70mph or more.

When my bike was 96" with wood 555 cams, 6th became more useable and I could shift into it at 65mph. With the stock 96, 6th was useless until 70-75.

With the 107 and depending on the ride, I find myself shifting into 6th as low as 60mph....but I prefer to be in 5th at that speed to have more power on tap at the flick of the wrist.

Always over 60, usually at about 65+. Unless going uphill, then add about 5 mph. As has been stated, I try never to lug it. I would very rarely be in 5th at 70-75 unless passing.

listen to your bike, not your mechanic. your bike will let you know if your rpms are too low/high. if you're cruising on a long, flat road, being in 6th will keep your rpms lower and your mpg higher. if you come to a climb or need to pass, you can downshift and get it done. as long as i'm over 2k rpm, my bike is happy. if i'm doing a speed that is less than that, i''m downshifting to keep it above that point.

just don't make the mistake that a lot of folks did when hd first came out with the 6 speed. they caught a case of stupid. everyone was fine before, now all of a sudden they want to be in 6th gear at 40 mph, and the bikes definitely don't like that.
