Default Steering head bearing grease

02 Electra Glide Classic
How do you get on the steering head grease fitting. None of my guns won't fit on it, not enough room to get on straight. Looks like I would have to remove part of the fairing or headlight frame.
Am I missing something, this should be easy

it is easy. if you use an angled adapter on your grease gun. be aware, once you pump that neck full of grease, it will continue to ooze out for the next 5 years or so.

You take the forks off, then remove the steering stem from the frame, inspect and repack or replace the bearings.

The grease fitting is designed to make the owner think he is actually servicing the bearings, but the only thing using that fitting does is pumps a bunch of grease into the steering head and makes a mess.

I have one like this, it slides on the fitting from the side.
Works great, especially for tight spaces

I was wondering if those bearings really need greasing

Yes, they do need to be greased.

If they have not been greased since the bike was new, the grease will be dried up like old peanut butter...

I will also add that on a bike that old, especially if it is original grease, the bearings really should be removed, cleaned, inspected, and greased by hand.... then reassembled..

When you pump the steering head full of grease through the fitting, it is marginally effective, if at all, at forcing new grease into the bearings.... If the grease in your bearings has gotten old and dried out, in will NOT be displaced by any new grease being pumped into the steering head...

Best to take the time to disassemble the steering head and properly grease the bearings...
