I'm considering getting either a wooden bead or sheepskin seat pad for my EGC. I can ride for quite a while before I need to take a break, but when I do my rear and backs of my thighs are damp with sweat. [:'(]I know a lot of you guys use the sheepskin from alaskaleather but I'm curious about the wood beads. Opinions?
I have both. The beads work.

Go with the beads...keeps ya kewl and you can feel the air beneath your hind end.

Plus the beads sound a bit sexier than anything to do with sheep....for some folks anyway.

Bead are great - and if you don't strap them in place, you can rotate them while you're riding, Just push up a bit on the floorboards, rotate the beads 90 degrees and the seat feels brand new and fresh.

Never tried the beads but I have a gel pad with sheepskin cover don't really care for the gel pad but the sheepskin does help with the swamp butt. The gels not that soft and it puts me right in the wind coming over the windshield.

Default BeadRider Beads

These beads appear to work, however after riding through rain, the paint on the beads comes off on your pants/shorts etc. I messed up 3 pairs of shorts with them. I would NOT recommend them. Besides BeadRider does NOT warranty the paint coming off or the damage to your clothes. So, stay away from BEADRIDER.

this year I'm trying the air circulator seat pad from the MOCO, it was kinda pricey but got it from LSHD at 20% off w/free shipping. I'll let you know how it works when I get back from Sturgis. jeez just noticed this thread is from 07. DUH

First off this thread is over 3 years old, and a new one just like it was dicussed a few weeks ago. You might want to look that one up if you're determined to get either the sheepskin or the beads.
Anyway - after all the discussion on the other thread about the merits of the sheepskin over the beads, I ignored them all and went with the HD Circulator seat pad. Partly because of the looks (mostly actually) and partly becuse it made sense to me.
Well after 4500 miles over the last couple weeks, all I can say is it works as advertised! I never had the dreaded "swap nuts" from my previous rides, and that was even with my lowers on in 100 degree heat. We started in Michigan - bought the pad in Illinois and used it from there, through Sturgis SD, Wyoming, Colorado, then home again. Never took it off either. It goes on easy and stays in place. I could actually feel some air flow through it while riding. It also adds a little bit of cush to your seat.
Highly recommend!

BTW - pushed her over 40,000 miles with this trip and it was the most comfortable I've been!

I see this is an old thread but I wonder how a sheepskin AND beads together would work. Anyone tried it? I'm going to take a look at the HD pad.

if you go to pep boys, auto zone, etc, you can find a car sized genuine sheepskin seat cover. there's enough there to make either a very large pad for the rider/passenger, or enough to make two rider pads. cheap at 40 bucks too. don't get the synthetic though. they're also easy to roll up and stuff in the bags, taking up very little space.
