7500 mile service
I'm a returning rider after 35 years looking for advice from the seasoned riders out there. My 2000 EGC is coming up for the 7500 mile service. I looked at the HD checklist for that service and see that they only inspect various areas and don'teven change the oil.My question is what will this inspection process run and am I better off going to the local mcy mechanic for that check-up? This is my first experience using HD service. The prior owner only used HD service since the bike was brand new.

RE: 7500 mile service
In my opinion, get a service manual, and do the work yourself. It is no big deal. If you just got the bike, I would definitely change all three fluids and check the bike from top to bottom. Use the 10k checklist as a guide (even though you are not there yet). If you are not comfortable doing the work yourself, as I was (had the 1k done by an Indy shop) find a good independent motorcycle shop to do your work for you. They will typically have a lower hourly rate, and I have found the service to be better. Services rage from $250-$350, so I have read here. May be more or less than that. For less than $60, get the HD manual. Buy your fluids (synthetic), and do it yourself for less than $150. Then at the 10k, you will only be out of pocket for the fluids and gaskets/filter. JMHO And welcome to the forum. If you are nervous about working on your bike, there are a ton of guys, here, willing to walk you through every process you will need to do... Just ask. And good luck!
