Default Totaling My Bike Question

Long story short, my new to me 2011 Electra Glide Classis was backed into in a parking lot and knocked over. I paid a little to much for the bike probably, but it was in showroom condition with lots of upgrades and customizations.
Guy that hits me has progressive, adjuster came to my house and we worked it out to $3000 for a new saddlebag, bag guards, front fender, engine guard and a few other little things. Was a very pleasant and more than fair experience as I will do it all myself.
Yesterday I noticed my frame tab bent for the rear guard mount. Everything I see says it is totaled. Called the adjuster, he mentioned totaling it and I said no, I will fix it, frame is fine, I'll have a new tab welded in and fabricated if need be. He agreed I can do that.

Now thinking about it, has anybody had a similar bike totaled? Wondering what the claim payout may be, might be worth it if I can get into a newer bike. I paid $13,000 for it a few weeks ago, 17,000 miles now, I put 1000 on already.

You have already made the decision to weld the tab onto the frame.

The insurance company concurred as you told them you would fix it.

Do not think anymore about it, fix it and ride. If totaled they will give you Auction wholesale ($8,860). You are already ahead of the game with the insurance company covering the repairs.

Should of never taken that on yourself IMHO.
Always have a good Insurance Inspector look over the bike for damage, you won't always see what they are trained to see and their experience.

That's the plan, but got to thinking of what they might offer. Thanks

Thanks, I am a mechanic, the adjuster is a motorcycle adjuster, we both missed it at first but had an understanding that the claim stays open and they cover anything found while repairing. I am more than happy about how the situation was handled and the adjuster staying true to his word. Actually a very positive experience with them.

This is why if you wreck your Ride have it taken to an HD dealership. Period. Does not mean you have to have it fixed there. They know more about the cost to fix it than anyone. The bike at an HD dealership . The adjust goes there to inspect it.

That’s what I did, and the dude that hit me insurance covered what the dealer said. But my bike was rideable, and I rode to the dealer.

One less though was the dealer wouldn’t order parts until they were paid for parts. I didn’t realize that, and freakin State Farm only cuts checks every other week...so, it got delayed. So, my insurance (Progressive) ) paid the dealer except for deductible. Then when they eventually got paid by State Farm, Progressive paid me back my deductible.

Ive been a claimant against State Farm 3 times, and every time their service was terrible.

Lesson learned. This is all pretty minor stuff at least and I did get a quote from the dealership before I accepted the insurance offer. It was more than fair.

Could always see what they offer to total it and then work a deal to buy it back from the insurance company for little to nothing and do the repairs yourself and keep riding it, it would be listed as a salvaged title though if that matters to you.

that would be the biggest issue at this point. IF they total it, some insurance companies won't touch it. And, you're into the bike for some coin, so with a totaled title, it'd be VERY hard to ever get ahead of the cost to ride it. That may not be a concern now, but down the road, trying to sell a bike with a salvage title can be tough, especially when you paid a premium up front for it.

I'd say, fix it and ride it. Just my .02.....
