Installing detachable passenger backrest?

Did you need to use two different docking kits or can one kit cover both the backrest and the tour pack?
I have ordered a new SG and am having the backrest fitted...may want to buy a tour pack later so dont want to duplicate the hardware if it is not necessary.
NICE car by the way!

RE: Installing detachable passenger backrest?
So how to fix the right hardware to the bottom of the tourpack instead of using the original?
It seems crazy that we cant find a way to use one docking kit to perform both functions...I think it is just a way for the MoCo to make more money.
I am sure with all these brains on this site we can figure some way to do it.

RE: Installing detachable passenger backrest?
This is tricky to install, before loosening any bolts, I put my floor jack under the exhaust,
so the holes stay lined up and the weight of the pipe doesn't pull it down.
I also installed the "quick-release locks" found out they do not have the same exact grooves
cut into the sides as the stock pieces, I ended up installing the left-side (I think) backwards
so it actually works, I think some of the factory accessories fit terrible.

All I can say is good luck if you're taking on the install yourself. My batting average is.500 on installation of the detachable passenger's backrest. Got 'er done on the 00 RKC myself, but had to wave off on the installation on the 07 SG for fear of damaging the bike in frustration. Absolutely kicked my *** and the multipleinstruction sheetsonly make it worse.

RE: Installing detachable passenger backrest?
Before I installed mine,I looked at a bike at my dealership that already the detachable passenger backrest on it and took notes. That helped me greatly.I also wish that I would have spray painted the mounting bracket black. My bike is black and the bracket is kinda a dark brown.Just something to think about...

This thread has been very helpful. I wonder if, when you buy a used sissybar, the seller knows to include that flat bar support (#53805-99) with the sissybar. I'm thinking not. And if you don't know to ask, you might be disappointed. I bought both the front and rear kits, and am in the middle of installing them. Guess I'll have to wait till I actually get the sissybar before I can finish installing the front docking points.
