Default Replacing the heated grips on a limited

Wonder if anyone has updated the heat grips on a limited. I have a 2017 limited and looking to upgrade the heated grips. All the kits say an additional; wiring harness is needed (69201599A). Since the bike already has heated grips, why is the additional wire harness kit needed? You would think they would make a kit specific for bikes that came with heated grips.

Extra wiring kit is not needed for anything 2014 touring and up with throttle by wire. The "kits" fit many year bikes and some do need it. Yours is just plug and play. Will need to pull the new wire thru left side. Right side just plugs in to the end of the TBW unit.

You won't need it, below is what the actual installation directions say. Funny thing is the embolden text below should say 2014 and later FLTRU (Road Glide Ultra)... it kinda does I guess... as written by engineers... says 2017 and later Road Kings, then doesn't really give a year model for FLTRU, but its 2014 (at least) and up... I have a 2016 and it needed that kit you mention to keep it "plug and play", plus you have to piece 3 extension that comes with the grip together to reach that damn kit (what a mickey mouse way of doing stuff), next time I have the tank off that craps coming out.

BUT, for you not a problem lol of the fairing bikes, the Road Glide Ultra is the only one that needs that damn "kit" because the power lead isn't there like on all other models (even the Road Glide Special and Road Glides have the power connector under the speedo/tach, just not the Road Glide Ultra). On the batwings the 2 connectors you'll need to hook to are under the fairing. 1) The power connector comes off the back of the power port/cigarette lighter (its to the right of the stereo and down a little, if you're standing in front of your bike with the outer fairing off). Then 2) "interconnect" connector is what get the power of to the throttle side, its left of the stereo and up a little (with outer fairing off standing in front of your bike). Look for where the harness from the throttle side controls come thru and in to the fairing. But if I am reading what you typed right, you're replacing them... so its just tracing out the right wires, un plug and hook right back up to the same ones.

I would suggest paying close attention to if the new ones you pick can be internally wired or not... thats usually the thing that gives people the toughest decisions. Not because running the wires internally is that tough, but because most of HD heated grips aren't internally wired. The Big Kahunas are and I am not sure what others are besides the plain rubber ones, but if thats important to you be sure and read that part lol
