Default 5000 mile service

I had my 5000 mile service done by my dealer yesterday. Plus a Pennsylvania state inspection. Now I have seen and heared some horror stories about the cost. $200 was my total. I don't think that was too bad. I know it was just changing fluids and adjustments. But not bad.

that sounds like a really good price. but it would be even better to have spent 60 bucks for the manual, a little quality time with your bike and fluids. money well spent in my book

Just had mine done in Ruckersville Va. to the tune of $140. Changed to Amsoil in all three holes too.

Good price for 1st service and insp. My dealer (also in Pa.) charges around 300.00 for the 1st service. I got the service manual for my bike and do my own / I really enjoy doing it myself, I've learned alot / I only work on my bike on rainy days ... GO FIGURE

I have done most of my own work in the past, but with my Deuce I had my local shop (not Harley Dealer) do my 1k, 5k and 10k. It's just nice to have a separate pair of eyes on the bike once in a while. I plan on doing the same with this Road Glide, switching it to Amsoil at 1k just like I did with the Deuce, all three holes.

To me the cost of the service is the least of the issues. It's the idiotic part of having to leave it for 3 or 4 days for the service to be done(after making an appt weeks in advance), getting a ride there and back and then my favorite......playing the "what have they scratched and damaged on my bike since they've had it" game. Why can't I make an appt, drop it off and wait a couple of hours for the service to be done? Like with my car and truck. What a concept! This also gives them less time to damage your bike. [:@]

This is why I'm learing to do this stuff myself.

Exactly, that's why I do my own wrenching. The shop only gets my bike if I don't have the time or the tools. It NEVER goes to the dealer for anything, except maybe a trade-in.

My local shop (The Motorcycle Stop) does not make appointments, its first come first served. So when its about time for service, I drive by after work. If he is not swamped, I leave the bike that evening and pick it up the next afternoon. I drive my MINI Cooper S the day I don't have the bike.

Oh, and he is only 4 blocks from my house.
