Default Something I dislike about the Jiffy Stand...

Well, I did it. After a few months of Harley ownership, I did it. I laid my Ultra Limited on it's side No damage fortunately, but I'm not a huge fan of the Jiffy Stand. Not because I don't trust it - I understand how it works and trust it implicitly. What I don't like is that it works differently than every kickstand on every bike I've ridden for the last 50 or so years. After a ride I pulled into the garage, unloaded and packed gear away. I needed to pull it forward 6-8 inches to clear the garage door. On any of my other bikes, if I stood it upright and pushed it forward 6-8 inches, there was close to zero chance of moving the kickstand to where it wouldn't support the bike. On the Harley, that's exactly what happened. I don't blame the Jiffy Stand - it was entirely my fault - but I don't like that it's different than every other bike I've ridden. Hopefully this is something you only do once!!!

There are multiple threads on this. Conclusion is the Harley jiffy stand is one of the best designed components in the world. If you screw up using it, it’s operator error.

I totally accepted responsibility, my comment was only that the design is different from every other motorcycle that I have ridden over the last 50 years. And I hope I learn from this first incident. No need to defend the Jiffy Stand.

I parked my KLR650 pointing slightly downhill and in neutral (duh!). It rolled and the stand folded and the bike went down. Would never happen with a Harley.

The way it locks in position and can’t fold when weight is applied, excellent design.

Hey you guys. Get with the program. I was already admonished for defending the HD Jiffy Stand before some of you posted. HD is apparently are supposed to conform to inferior designs, for people that are used to the inferior designs.

I wouldn't move anything on two wheels forward without checking the kickstand before leaning it over again.

[I don't pretend to be a guy who never made a mistake.]

This design has been around longer than any motorcyle company in the world. And. You are complaining about it? Because you ****ed up? How does that make you feel? Maybe you should go back to what you were riding before you acquired your HD. Be safe.

Jeez guys....did you guys read the OP’s post. He said them at the Jiffy stand is NOT AT FAULT and took ownership of the fact that he messed up....he was merely stating that he is not a fan because he is not used to it...and hopes it won’t happen again.

To the OP, most of what I have ridden are HD...so I am always checking it whether I move it forward, back, stand it up....hopefully it is your first and last issue.

So, what was he looking for from his post?
