Could be the OP was simply trying to help someone else who might not be familiar with the Jiffy stand on a H-D.

Totally hated the jiffy stand at first after having only Suzukis & Hondas my whole life. But now I totally trust it.

I had my Dyna rear ended in a parking spot at work by a coworker in a Prius. He zipped in and didn't see it and backed into the spot fast enough to push my bike up over the curbed sidewalk. The forks were locked. It bounced back down into the parking spot still upright on the jiffy stand. I love them.

I have owned and or ridden German, Italian, British, Japanese and American motorcycles. There is one law of physics that they all possess. Once you get over the angle of elevation and depression all bets are off.

People should take this thread as a warning, not a complaint. I did the same exact thing a few years ago. My son had his motorcycle in my garage, and I thought it was too close to mine. So I moved mine. I didn’t think the jiffy stand was dragging, but when I let go, the bike collapsed. I’ve dropped my bike two other times, with no damage, because I have saddlebag rails, but this time my tour pack got scratched.

At first when it fell I thought maybe I had put the jiffy stand up and forgot, so I reenacted the crime, and saw that moving the bike had pushed the stand back, past the lock.

After 47 years of owning, riding HDs. I always check the KS whenever I move front or back. Even in my own shop. A fool is that . That does not do that.

Good post about the jiffy stand. Too bad some folks don't read the whole thing and jump to silly conclusions.

So, on other motorcycles, if you lift the bike upright, take the pressure off the jiffy stand, move the bike forward and happen to drag the jiffy stand, their jiffy stands won't move?

OP, just curious, but were you moving the bike from the right side? When I move my bike, I move it from the left side. Before I let the bike lean over, I always check the jiffy stand.

I confirm the jiffy stand is locked in place before I start leaning the bike over. I do it every time no matter what.

Sure....it may roll forward about an inch. But, it’s locked and doesn’t fall over.

I would like to add though....I recommend inspecting the jiffy stand at every service interval.

The OP is just thinking out loud and sharing his thoughts on what happened. He's not looking for advice or needing to get raked over the coals.
