My friend told me it was too hot to ride and it kinda made me laugh.
I ride because I enjoy it, if I can't enjoy the ride, then why ride??
That having been said, extreme enough heat that would keep me from riding doesn't occur in the area where I live, but if I lived in one of those southwestern arid areas, it might be different.
Hottest I've ridden in was 110 between Kingman and Barstow. It wasn't too bad, but you do gotta stay hydrated. Wouldn't want to get stuck in traffic at those temps tho. Take breaks more often and drink plenty of fluids...
115 is about my limit, I ride almost everyday, but if the temp gets over 115 here in the desert, the traffic and heat combo make it rather uncomfortable
Want to talk about heat and riding... Pipertl is now on Highway 1 headed from SF to Monterey, Ca. On July 28 his group headed from Vegas to Lone Pine Ca - taking them right through Death Valley... I was on the computer that day at the fire station and watching the weather posted from Furnace Creek Ranch... at 3pm that day it was 118.7. I am sure when he gets back home (sometime after Aug 6) he will post his trip/story...
