doing my first oil change on my 05 Electraglide and the oil filter is stuck tight! I’ve tried using a filter socket to no avail. Tried using a band filter wrench with all sorts of paper and tape wrapped around the filter to get more purchase. Nada. I bought one of those nylon strap wrenches, and all it did was crumple the filter. From what I can see online, the next step is taking a screwdriver to the damn thing, but that seems sketchy. Any ideas? Thanks from Noobville.

A huge shout out to Vipers Harley for his suggestion to drive a tie rod fork into the end of the filter, and using vice grips as a level, twist the damn thing off.

I lubricated the new seal with clean oil, tightened it by hand, and then gave it a 1/3 turn with my strap wrench. Pictures included.
Now to top it off with fluids and get back to riding. Cheers, friends!
Did you warm the bike up first? Screwdriver is always last resort, personally, never had that issue.On install, lube that ring up so it doesn'tn happen again.
If it hasbeen on for a long time...the gasket may have welded itself to the seat. Even then I’ve never been unable to break a filter loose with a proper fitting good quality wrench. Not a Harbor Freight one.

i didn’t warm it up. Does that make a huge difference? And how do I reply to you guys without quoting you?
