Default Media compartment USB cable length adjustable?

Before I go through the hassle of removing my fairing, I'm wondering if someone knows if you can adjust the USB cable length in the media compartment? Mines sticks out way past the front cover and I want to move it back in some (shorten the cable). I can see in the back of the media compartment it appears to go through a large rubber grommet. I'm wondering if the cable can slide through that grommet or if it is molded onto the cable. There isn't much room in this compartment and I want to move the cable back and velcro it to the side so it's out of the way as much as possible. Then just use a very short cord to plug my phone in. Thanks!!

This isn't my picture, just to reference the cable I am talking about.

it is fixed, non adjustable, you can take it apart and "adjust" it by cutting the grommet

Or you could save yourself the trouble and just add a USB extension cable.

There isn't a ton of slack if you pop the Grommet and you also lose waterproofing to that compartment. Like other said, I would recommend just adding a cable to extend it. I personally rerouted the entire cable to the left side and put a plug in the Box. I use a 1' extension cable.
