Default Radar detector.

OK, I'm pizzed.I have gone without a speeding ticket for 13 years. Tonight, for the second time in 2 months I got a ticket (this was supposed to be my "cool down from the day" ride [:@]). They both got me by radar and both LEOs knew I was a firefighter, but apparently that doesn't matter anymore. That is why I changed my signature line, I figure they are jealous

My question is this, do you have a radar detector? What kind and why?

Excuse me?!?? Whatthehell does you being a firefighter have to do with you getting a ticket for speeding?!?? Oh, I see - you figure that being a FF is some kinda "free pass", eh? Well, ah'll tell ya one thing - if ya even TRIED badgin' me back when I worked SO, you would DEFINITELY git a ticket - that's an insult ta imply that you should somehow consider "extra consideration"!!

Sorry for insulting your integity but I didn't "badge them". I ride a FFSE with the word "Firefighter" on the tour pack where "Harley Davidson" used to be. Both of them asked me about the bike and where I worked. I wouldn't presume to ask for special treatment because I was in the wrong, but around here we (LEOs and FF) work closely and watch out for each other (or so I thought).

I'm sorry your so bitter.

I run a Cobra in my Mustang, an Escort X50 on my sportbike, and the HD radar detector on my Ultra. I never leave home without them. You can still get a ticket, but if you're paying attention it's much harder for them to sneak up on you. Trick is to have someone in front of you whenever possible so that you get a signal when the LEO shoots him.

How hard is it to go about the speed limit?

I have never needed a radar detector. I've owned them, the best being the Valentine 1. But need it? Nope. I've had my M3 up to 180MPH, nobody noticed.

Think of it this way, would you want someone breaking the law in your jurisdiction? Nope, do it outside his jurisdiction. On the open road, with lots of clear viewing, you can spot them before they see you and get a bead on ya. Elsewise, bombing the bushes hoping he ain't around the next corner is silly, that is where he will be.

Sorry, but thanks for your service as a Fireman, but don't slam the LEO for doing what YOU pay him to do.

You know I have read several post on this site about civil servant back watching. To tell the truth, it makes me sick. You should not get any special treatment because you are a FF or a LEO. I applaude your career CHOICE, but if anything, you should be held to a higher standard. Just my 2 cents

Ain't buying it!

So, since I'm in the military. shouldn't I also get a free pass? Integrity and treating everyone fairly is what our professional civil servants are charged to do. I don't think you or any other FF or Police or Military deserve special treatment for what you/we do. we are supposed to above reproach and serving those who pay us. We are not above the law that we swear to honor anddefend.

Two tickets in two months, and somehow it's the cop's fault because YOU were speeding.[sm=lame.gif] I don't get it.

That's like blaming you for setting the fire you're trying to put out.

I apologize if you all think I'm looking for special treatment, I'm really looking for opinions on radar detectors.

I know I was wrong, I was 15 over the limit both times. I have and will pay the fines.

Like it or not in some areas of the country there is a bond between FF and LEOs (yes, and Military). Is it right? That is for better people than me to decide. I just know I will ALWAYS give a FF, LEO or Military personelthe benefit of the doubt. I figure if your willing to risk your life to protect my familiy and I, the least I can do is give you something back if I can.
