Default Which cables?? For 12 or 13" apes on roadking

I'm going to be installing some apes on my RKC very soon, I'm on the fence between 12s 13s or 16s

The 12s and 13s look good, as I am not too tall and dont really need to reach a whole lot but I've never been on a bike with 16s.

What throttle cables and clutch cables and brake hoses will I need to make any of these bars work for me. I need to know what extended sizes are available

Thanks in advance for your help!!

I also would like to know if anyone has any good advice on which brand I should go with. I'm not looking for a super cheap way out but I'd like to have something not too over the top pricewise.

Thinking about the chubby ww502s

There are also some apes on ebay i'm lookin at that are a bit cheaper

I have a RK Custom with 12" apes that came on it. My advice is to make sure that you don't want the 16" before you put 12" on. I would like to go taller on mine now. Basically you have to redo it all to go bigger and it is the same price about as the original. I don't know if it is possible but you may want to put cables on for 16's even if you go with 12's to have that extra length. I am not sure if that will work or not. But I am sure that I wish mine had room in the cables to go 16's now with out full redo.

16s would be nice but my scoot is kinda oldskool I want to keep it that way too. I just dont know how 16's would look on my classic. 12's seem to look a little more low key than the 16s. maybe 14s are an option?

HEY MAYBE THE PHOTOSHOP GUYS COULD PUT SOME ON FOR ME!

I recently installed Wild1 chubby 12.5 med. apes on my bike and love them. Not too tall, not too short. Very comfortable and the install wasn't bad. I got all my cables from www.hdbikeparts.com . Stainless kit for dual disc brakes was $299. You can even get thechubby bars from them.Just tell Johnny what year, make and modelyour bike is and what bars you want to install and he'll send you the right length cables and hoses. It eliminates a lot of BS and guess work. The customer service was also very good. BTW, I don't work for them, just passing along something that worked well for me. I did get the bars locally from a friend for less than list.

I do wish that I had seen the wire extentions in the JP catalog before I cut and soldered all of mine. Would have saved a lot of time.

I went with 18" LA Chopper bars. If you go to www.lachoppers.com they also sell blemished bars, at a discount. Excellent bars, IMO. I am 6'1", and the 18" bar puts my hands at my shoulders. Just right. +10 cables had to be made. Going with a longer cables, incase you wanted to go up in height, I feel, would look wrong, and I don't know if it would work anyways. Go to a dealer or bike night. There may be some guys there that will let you sit on their bikes, to get a feel for the size you want. I let people sit on my bike, all the time. No problem. Riding with the apes takes a bit to get use to, but I was comfortable within a 100 miles. My advice, depending on your height, would be to go 16". I read a lot where guys went with less, and wish they had gone a bit higher. JMHO

Mine are 12.5" Wild one chubbys and I love them. I'm 5' 11" and they are just right for me. If I was to do it again I would consider 16" but like I said I love the 12.5". The cables that I went with are BarnettBraided+ 6" Idel & Throttle cables, + 6" Dual disc Russell Braided brake lines and fittings. and + 8" Barnett braided Clutch cable. I had + 6" Clutch cable for the first year but after making to many hard left hand turns it ended up streching and would nolonger work. Two years with the + 8" clutch cable and no problems. Good luck
