FLHTC Rider Backrest install
After reading a few back rest topics here I was concerned about spending the money to add a backrest. Several of you stated you felt like you were sitting on the tank with the rest. Having access to a press and being a machinist I figured I could go ahead with the purchase and makemodifications necessary.
As it turned out I didn't need to add shims, bend bars, or any of that. Here's what I did to achieve a comfortable mount and sit normally in the saddle.
[ul][*]I mounted the bracket as far back as possible. There are four mounting locations to choose from I used the most forward holes which set the bracket all the way back.[/ul]
[ul][*]After re-installing the seat I addjusted the back rest angle using the screw on the back of the rest. This can be adjusted using a 3/16 allen wrench inserted through the grommet as shown in the photo. This allowed me to match the angle of the seat so I was in natural postion. Ifound this set up very comfortable. I am 6' 0" and 190 lbs. My wife was able to sit comfortabally as well on the passenger pillion.[/ul]

RE: FLHTC Rider Backrest install
Added one to my EGC last week and my installation went much the same as yours. At first I was a bit uncomfortable, guess I got so use to slouching that a more upright position felt ackward. After a few hundered miles with it on I like the riding position and so does my back. I'm 6'1"-190lbs and I am at the end of the adjustments. I can see where a bigger guy would not find this to his liking. Poor design on HDs part not to have a backrest that accomidates riders larger than me.
