I recently had a 128 installed but before that I just had a S+S 475 in my cvo 117 (stage 2). Just the cam made a huge difference and now this 128 is amazing!!, I do love some power though. I also have a set of 13 inch RWD RS-1s on the rear and that also made a huge difference, before the shocks I would get shockwaves sent up my spine on minor bumps but now the rear just floats like a Cadillac, it is very nice!

I just did both two months ago... RS468 cam and Legends front and rear. Cam is cool but truth be told, the suspension completely changed the feel of the bike for the better.

if it came down to one or the other, my money is on the suspension upgrade. IMHO, it will make more significant impact on the everyday ride, and on EVERY ride.

What kind of shocks did you go with and are they dialed in properly?

I have Howards Ohlins out back w/ rezzies and legend axeo up front.
1K doesn't begin to cover that price.

Also, we have roughly 3 total inches of travel, closer to two once sag is set right. Expecting 2 inches of travel on a 900 lb bike to soak up every size bump so you don't feel it is unrealistic.
Prior to setting sag properly I'd say you're right.
Setting up a quality shock is key to ride quality.

Where I notice mine, riding solo frankly, is when I'm pushing it in 80 to 90mph sweepers and it stays planted rather than wanting to wallow.

I put between 12k-15k on it a year. My wife also rides with me about 50% of the time. Which upgrade would you do and if you’ve done either one or both, what’s your experience with them?

I think stage 2 adds more fun by far. Ive never agreed that suspension upgrade was that big a deal. Will you feel an improvement? Yes. I don't ride aggressively so i don't feel it's worth the money for me. A good seat helps too.

I never avoided a road because of a lack of power. I have avoided roads because of a lack of suspension. U.S.131 between Pellston and the Mackinac Bridge before they fixed the road comes to mind.

Replace both the front and rear suspension first. Then stage 2 after your warranty has expired and do not install HD parts.

I have an 03 ultra with 35k miles on it. Even with only the 88 and a stage 1 kit, it still does 110. Good enuf for me. But my shock upgrade changed everything. Love it....totally different ride.

In addition to the rear shocks, for two up the hammock seat is hard to beat.

I put a hammock seat on before it left the dealership. Love the Hammock seat!
