Hell, it just occurred to me that this whole IDS scheme may be solely to prevent the pressed-together crankshaft from getting twisted as has been reported as having happened to some.

If that's the case wouldn't it be wise for MOCO to add that to the 07's? cheaper than replacing a bunch of motors!

I would assume that you know the rattle or tranny noise everyone is talking about with the 07's. From your ride on the 08, do you believe that the IDS is the fix? I understand you stated there was still a slight noise, but what are your thoughts? Did they change something in the 08's??

Bob
I asked if any changes were made to tranny and the answer was no, Ive owned 2, 07s and they both had no clatter but both had 5th gear whine. The 08 had the same 5th gear whine but it was barley noticable. This was a ultra with lowers and all, as slight as the whine was I doubt you would even hear it on a bike without lowers.

Installed the IDS CUSH DRIVE today the clatter is gone, but the 5 gear whine is still there maybe a little quieter. Very pleased with the ids on my 07 ultra classic with,V&H true duals you can here the engine now instead all the clatter before

On the 08's the compensator was redesigned and the IDS was added.. I will replace the compensator (with an 08' one) and install the IDS on my 07 SG..

Here's a direct copy from the Rocker review...

The Rocker features the balanced version of the new 1,584cc engine. Power from the Twin Cam 96B is transferred through a six-speed transmission and primary modified to accept the Rocker’s wider tire and fender.
I turn the key and fire up the balanced twin and discover that the slight clunk from the compensator I used to hear in the TC96B is gone. The redesigned primary includes different ramping on the compensator that eliminates most of the reverse loading that occasionally caused that sound.

Here's the link...

Makes sense, I've allways known it was the compensator... (rattle)

I still believe that "Red Line Heavy Shock Proof" is a great and really make a HUGE difference....
Baker drive train has a cure for this problem...5th gear helical-gear set....or my cure... a good set of straights..

I agree. When I shifted my 07 ultra into fifth gear for the first time I thought , " dam that sounds like an old friend ". I can't remember which one. It was either the 61 panhead, or the 75 flh.

I never whined about the whine!
