Default True drop in cams for 04 road king

I’m getting ready to do my camchest inspection - if everything is good to go, I’d like to do a cam upgrade and install new bearings while I’m in there. Looking for recommendations, stage 1 with dynojet tuning from fuel moto.

Obviously this question is irrelevant if parts fall out when I open the chest of if the crank is bad. But assuming all is well I’d like to keep my stock pushrods and everything else... if it’s a mess, I’ll just have to rebuild the cam chest or worse.

I put an Andrews 21 in TC 88; love it. Pulls right off the line and doesn’t drop flat at higher rpm’s. Great for lower rpm riding, if that’s your style.

Bang for the buck.... I don't think you can beat A21 cams with a good tune, for a bolt-in mod on an 88" Twin Cam...

S&S 509 is a good bolt in 88” bagger cam. I had those in my 02 road king and they were perfect for normal everyday 2 up riding. I had S&S509(chain drive),stock push rods, Torrington inner cam bearings, cyco tensioner shoes, stage one breather, stock head pipe and Rushmore factory take off mufflers.I have also heard a lot of good things about the andrews 21’s.

Gear to gear cams will give less trouble, they may cost a little more, but they are worth it.
I went with S&S on my 2000 FXDWG

Proven drop in cams for TC88 are S&S 509 or Andrews 21. Not a lot difference in their specs. I doubt anyone could feel difference in a seat dyno. Just by the specs, the 509 should have more low end grunt with quicker intake close. The 21 may run further up on the RPM. Maybe someone can chime in that has run both. I went with 509 as I already had S&S lifters and PRs. Can't go wrong with either. Pick one and sleep well.
