Different Suspension On Street Glide
Thinking about doing something different on the rear of my SG in an effort to smooth out the ride and add some more suspension travel. Has anybody done this? Would a stock Electra Glide set up do the trick or would I be better off going with something aftermarket, like a Progressive unit?
No need to flame me for being a wuss (), I bought the SG for the nakedness of the bike, not the lowered suspension. When I'm on a long ride I like comfort and no matter how much I play with the air pressure on the bike, I just can't seem to get the ride I'd like to have.

Going with the stock 13" off the other glide models might do you pretty good.
I like my stock suspension and so does the wife.
They'll bolt right on and you can probably find them cheap in the classifieds section or Ebay.
Seems like everyone goes the other way to shorter ones for the look.(not the ride)

Do a serach on the forum and you will find more.
Seems to me that you can get these from shooter64 for a fair price.

1. 13" (standard) FLH shocks. Will improve ride but raise the rear.
2. 13" shocks with 1" lowering kit (e.g., Burly Brand). Other kits on Ebay, most claiming no decrease in suspension travel and the price is right (~$100). I had White Bros. (now Burly Brand) on my '96 RK and never had a problem. Ride was as good as stock.
3. Progressive 440 or Works Performance shocks. Even 12" will help, but 12½" is a good compromise. I installed the 12½ 440's on my SG and like the results, but make sure you get the right spring rate for your body and cargo weight (standard or heavy-duty). Best to call Progressive for a recommendation.
4. Various aftermarket air-suspension shocks. I have no experience with these, but they are all expensive.

RE: Different Suspension On Street Glide
today i just buy a stock 13" FLH rear shock....and i install them in 15 minutes and.....wowww....what a difference....i love it, better ride, more shock travel, lighter handling, and the most important, i dont need to hold my body from being rearward when i on the gas......my body position can be flat and more more comfortable than 12" SG stock shock....i wont come back to 12" shock....i think 12" is only better in look but worst in ride and handling....i need to ride my SG for long ride, not for bar/cafe ride only....
as far as the look....13" look higher a little, but not much, not everyone can notice the height difference, trust me,so no problem for me, the bike still look cool....
