I have the 450 on my UC and it is easily visable in direct sunlight. It has large buttons on the touch screen that would make it easy to use with gloves (although I haven't tried it yet). The only part that might be tough with gloves is entering an address, the buttons for the letters may be a little small. All in all I love this unit.
It is mounted on the handle bar with the RAM mount. It is rugged and stable with almost no vibration above idle.

OK, guys... I just pulled the trigger on a zumo 450. Ordered it this past monday from buydig.com for $485 delivered. It got here today, and it took me only about 90 minutes to pull the front of the batwing off and hardwire it into the extra leads coming off the wiring harness. I have a comagination headlight modulator but checked the extra two leads and they're not being modulated. they're upstream of the headlight harness and are not affected by the in-line harness near as i can tell.
I used the supplied handlebar mount and was off and riding in no time. I love this thing! It is truly plug and play, and if you have any knowledge (it helps to download the owners manual from the garmin site while you're waiting on it to come in, that way when it arrives, your ready to start using it.
It is pretty intuitive to use and really works well. In just two hours of using it, I can't imaging why i waited so long to buy it. It acquired a signal while still in the house, probably took 30 seconds or less, and since then it only seems to take about 10+ seconds to acquire your position.
It is a beefy unit, no lightweight, and extremely full featured. I havent had a chance to plug in routes and waypoints, but I can already see that this thing is definitely going to make trips a LOT more fun and successful, and even our evening rides will be more fun.
If you want to see pics, let me know and i'll try to figure out how to upload them.

This site has excellent pics of the Garmin 550 and all the installation ram mount hardware. It tells you just about everything you could want to know about the Zumo in text and pictures. In case this link does not work, you can go to gpsinformation.net and scroll down to the Zumo450/550 line.
