My '03 had a quick connect leak. When I had it fixed he replaced the in gas tank line too. They were prone to rubbing and getting a pinhole leak. Not a big deal. If you analyze too much you will never get a bike.

Default Carb

I picked up a low mileage 2000 electra glide classic. It has a carb and not fuel injection from the factory. Were there any carb road kings in 1999 through 2001?
I like the CV carb way better than the early FI and plan on going to gear drive this winter.

yes, RK std was carbed but classics were FI from the factory with MM until Delphi came.

I have a 2002 RK with the carb, couldn't be happier with it.

I never had any problems with my 2002 Springer or my 2003 Road king both injected. I had a Early twin cam with MM injection. It wouldn't stay running. The dealer I got it from couldn't produce the title so I gave it back to them. I think carbed twin cam sounds better at idle but delphi FI is a good system. Runs better going from flatlands to the mountains. No need to rejet it. Good luck on your search.

Road King prices bottom out around $5000. A few good deals cheaper now and then, but I purchased a beautiful 07 RK Custom for $5000. So, a little patience will get you an 07 or newer for an 88 price.

Don't stress about the crank thing, as mentioned unless you're doing something crazy it won't be an issue. Definitely go for the 2002 and newer Dephi system. Budget for replacing the lines in the tank since they have almost certainly began to deteriorate and develop pinholes at this point. The carb conversion is going to be an expensive, time consuming affair, you will be time ahead to get a Delphi bike. If you want to go with a hydraulic cam plate upgrade, there is nothing wrong with the Screamin' Eagle one, it works well and is readily available, as is the 95" BB kit if you're so inclined. You'll need to use Powervision or some other tuning software, so keep that in mind.

That's for sure.

And to put a fine point on it, 2003 models have a cold forged crank which is superior to any TC after that as they're all cast (2004+). Touring models prior to 2002 have problems with the swing arm cracking at the rear axle.

Thanks nomadmax, that's good info. I'll just keep waiting and watching for a 2003 or possibly 2003+ model to come up for sale. Cheers.
