What type of riding do you do and where, where are your current shift points (rpm), so you ride more solo or 2-up, what’s your budget, are you doing the work or farming out to a shop? Too many questions based on your initial post to suggest anything other than ride what you have and then make a guess later...

Basically the same bike. Love my 509c. Bike pulls hills better 2 up and no longer feels like it's out of steam at 70 mph

I have had 509G's in my 03 bagger for 8K miles, with a Thundermax tuner and O2 sensors

Once it goes above 2500 RPM's it scoots right along, great for highway and passing as it really comes alive at over 2800 to 5000,

It is a good broad power band cam for the TC88, where I am told the 510 is a tad peaky and only likes high rev's

and you are not going to have to worry about coil bind in the heads.

Certainly not knocking the S&S 509 cams... I know nothing about them....

Just for variety sake, my go to cam for an OEM 88' has always been an Andrews 21 cam..... They come on about 1700 rpms and go strong up to about 5K rpms... good bolt-in, mid range cam... where most people ride...

I[/QUOTE]

Installed 510gs in 02 to eliminate early TC chain/ bearing issues. as that was the “bolt in” back then ( 509s not yet invented/ offered)

Worked well for me on , light bike , light rider
( relatively speaking)

Replaced with 570 g with 98” build and added compression, heads, yada, yada

EDIT
good advice in post number 2
again, goals and budget
