Default Premium Tour Pak Rack Question

I just bought a Premium Tour Pak Rack for my new Ultra. The package came with a template for drilling the tour pak lid. I cant make "heads or tails" out of it. The directions call for placing masking tape on the lid where the "legs" of the rack come in contact with the lids. This seems reasonable but the template would be nice if it actually made sense.

I just placed the rack in the location that I wanted it to go, then put the tape underneath it. I then put the rack back on top of the tape and traced around the tubes on the tape with a pencil. I drilled the 4 holes in the center of those circles and bolted it into place. Much easier than using the template. I hope this helps.

I've got the same rack waiting to go on as well... And right next to that box is the tour pak spoiler... I must agree the templates suck for both (same template by the way...) One of these days I'll get the courage and start drilling holes.

JB,
With the spoiler being installed also, it is necessary to keep the rack very close to the back of the seat(about 1/4"). If you don't, then the rack will keep you from installing the spoiler. I was warned about this by the dealer when I bought my rack just in case I ever wanted to put the spoiler on later.

I bought the contoured tour pak rack for mine have not put it on yet cause I am waiting for the tour pak spoiler to come in. When I ordered it from Zanotti's they said it had a 30 day wait so I should get it in a few weeks. I was reading the papers that came with it and I think I will do it the way Steve suggests. But this is what erkes me I ordered the tour pak side marker light kit too. I put it on but they give you two extra socket housings to put on the side marker lights they already have a socket housing on each one but the wire colors do not match up with the assembly wire harness they give you to plug into the connector in the bottom of your tour pak on the left side so you have to take the socket housings that are on the tour pak lights off and put the ones they give you on and arrange the wires so the colors match. Now why when these Chinese build this assembly can't they put the wires in the sockets so the colors match. They have them right on the assembly wire harness now why can't they get them right on the tour pak lights. It would be very simple to do.

Hehehehe - I had the same problem my man! I laid that thing on 87 ways and it never made any sense to me - Plus it didn't help that the drill bit needed was of ocurse one of the few I didn't have - Finally I just put masking tape down about where I thought it should go and made pencil marks - I drilled small pilot holes and worked my way up to size and found slightly oversized chrome washers to help spread out the load bearing - It worked like a charm and looks great - No leaks!

Does anyone have a picture of a tourpak spoiler mounted? It would be a great help to see how much overhang there is because as I stated before, the template doesn't seem to be much help...

I just installed the tour pak rack that I asked about earlier. First off - I threw away the paper template. I then used some 3M blue "no residue" wide masking tape on the top of the tour pak lid. I then used some "tacky putty" (used to hang posters, pictures where you dont want to make holes in the walls.)
I placed a small amount of the tacky putty on the four legs of the rack - so wouldnt scratch the paint. The putty worked great since your are able to move the rack around and re-measure and re-position the rack until you get it just right. I then used a sharpie pen to draw circles around the tour pak legs on the masking tape. I have also used the tacky putty to temporarily hold screws/nuts/bolts and other hardware in places that are difficult to reach. The putty works like an extra "set of hands".

Good job, and good idea with the putty
