That makes sense. That is what I use on my other air cooled v-twin (Craftsman lawn tractor). I use the Pure One on my scoot though.

my 2001 RK runs quieter with the blue AC PF-53 and my bike is blue. H-D Filters are purolater. WIX (my preference) is highly rated and you can find them anywhere.

fastony - good link, thanks.

Found another link too though - http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/s...ead.php?t=7497 - where it warns of potential warrenty denial if the filter used isn't an "approved for motorcycle use" one.

Since it seems that the moco filters are made by Purolator...and a decent version of that according to cookiemech...it may be best in this case to actually use the moco one.

Using the black version only makes sense...since black is fastest after all.

I think someone on this Forum did an extensive study (search will probably find it) of the major brands of oil filters including the HD branded filter. Whoever this person was he researched design specifications and actually cut each filter in half to find out which filter brand had the best filter material, etc. Based upon the study I chose the Purolator Pure One p/n PL10241, I am able to get this filter at my local Advance Auto and the price is reasonable. If I remember correctly, he did not speak too highly of Fram or the HD Branded filter (whoever they are manufactured by). This study may have done many years ago, so HD may have upgraded their filter by now, I don't know.

Just my opinion, but H-D's engineers are pretty impressed with them, and since they're the ones who will be replacing my engine if it gets trashed (not Bubba, the internet oil filter guru) I think I'll follow their recommendation...
